From August 4 to 8, SerNet hosted an extraordinary week with Linux.Camp: For five days, everything revolved around technology, computers, and creativity. A total of nine young people interested in technology took part. The event was organized and supervised entirely by our trainees. It was a resounding success!
Independent planning – from start to finish
Preparations began months in advance. The trainees put together a varied program, formulated the content, organized the necessary materials, and advertised the event. In the process, they gained important experience in project management, communication, and working independently. They were supported by their trainers Jonas Reineke and Alexander Otte.
Practical, creative, interactive
The aim of Linux.Camp is to give participants an insight into the world of IT in a fun and practical way. This year, basic knowledge and creative projects went hand in hand once again. Under the guidance of our trainees, the young people learned, among other things:
- How the internet is structured
- Designing their own website
- How to protect themselves from viruses
- The basics of electrical engineering and circuit logic
In addition to technical know-how, the focus was on independent experimentation, creative thinking, and joint problem solving—accompanied by a motivated team that wanted not only to impart knowledge but also to inspire enthusiasm.
Learning with fun
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: “The camp was a lot of fun, with a good balance between theory and practice,” said one participant. Another added: “The atmosphere was great too!” The SerNet trainees also drew positive conclusions: “Everyone was very interested and participated enthusiastically,” reported Fynn Köhler.
The Linux.Camp project exemplifies SerNet's philosophy of actively giving young talent responsibility. Our junior staff also organize training fairs and Girls' Day independently.
After Linux.Camp is before Linux.Camp
Preparations for Linux.Camp 2026 are already underway. The feedback and experience gathered this year will be incorporated directly into future planning with the aim of generating even more enthusiasm for IT, open source, and secure infrastructures next year.
