The eighth FOSS Backstage will take place in Berlin on 16 and 17 March 2026. SerNet is a sponsor this year, supporting a conference that deliberately looks beyond the code when considering open source. The focus is on the organisational, legal and strategic prerequisites that make free and open software sustainable in the long term.
This is timely at a moment when open source is being discussed more intensely than ever before in political and regulatory circles. Digital sovereignty, resilient supply chains and the Cyber Resilience Act demonstrate that the focus is no longer solely on development, but also on governance, compliance and robust structures. This is precisely where FOSS Backstage comes in: with tracks on governance & community, legal & compliance, security, economics and other non-technical success factors of open source. The CRA is no longer a distant future topic: it has been in force since December 2024, with the first obligations taking effect from September 2026.
